Accessing BlackBoard

The Villanova University School of Law utilizes Blackboard Virtual Classrooms to assist students with their studies and to facilitate communication between students and professors. Students are presented with a variety of classroom resources available from any computer in any location on or off campus. The following contains instructions for accessing the Virtual Classrooms for the first time. If you have any trouble following the instructions below, contact Justin Barber or April Barton.

Section I (Login)

1. Select the “BlackBoard” link from the Villanova University School of Law website.
2. Select “Login” from the main page.

3. Enter your username and password as follows:

	Username: VLS Email Username Password: First 5 Digits of Your SSN Example (Jane Doe): jdoe@law.villanova.edu Username: jdoe Password: 12345
Note: Common names often require you to add a "1" or "2" after your username (Example - jdoe1@law.villanova.edu).

Section II (Personal Information)

The Tools box provides quick access to system tools from the My Institution area. The user tools allow users to access several tools that appear in course web sites on a system-wide scale as well as some unique tools such as the User Directory, as well as the ability to control the information that appears in the user’s account profile.

1. Select “Personal Information” from the Tools box found on the opening screen.
2. Select “Edit Personal Information” from the Personal Information page.
3. Update/add any information as you choose.
4. Click “Submit” from the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Note: You can also change your password from the Personal Information Page. It is recommended that users change their passwords periodically to ensure security. Passwords should be at least 6 characters in length.

1. Select “Personal Information” from the Tools box found on the opening screen.
2. Select “Change Password” from the Personal Information page.
3. Enter your new password in the first field.
4. Re-type your password in the second field for verification.
5. Click “Submit” from the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Section III (Enrollment)

The enrollment for the Virtual Classrooms is based on the Pre-Registration rosters.

Rosters are updated immediately following the end of the drop/add period. Students can self-enroll into the Virtual Classrooms anytime during the drop/add period to accommodate course changes.

The Courses area allows you to view and access all courses in which you are enrolled, and browse or search all courses offered. If you are enrolled in a course but the professor has not yet made it available, the course will not show up on the list of courses in which you are enrolled.

To enroll in a course (during the drop/add period):

1. Browse (or search) the Course Catalog. Note: Only courses that are available will be displayed!
2. If the course is available and you are not already enrolled, an ”Enroll” button will be present.

3. Click on the “Enroll” button and then click “Submit” on the following page.

If you are unable to locate a BlackBoard classroom for a course that you are registered for, one of the following scenarios is most likely responsible:

1. The BlackBoard classroom exists, but is unavailable to students while the Professor makes any necessary changes to the site or posts new materials.
2. The BlackBoard classroom does not currently exist, but will be used at some point into the semester at which time it will automatically appear under your list of courses.
3. That BlackBoard system is not being used by your professor this semester.
