Domestic Violence Issues
New York’s highest state court is presently hearing a challenge to New York City’s Administration for Children Services’ practice of bringing child neglect proceedings against battered mothers based on their having “allowed” their children to witness domestic violence. The North Carolina Supreme Court currently has a case pending before it
(Imes v. City of Asheville – Buncombe County) that challenges the right of an employer to fire an individual employee simply because he/she is the victim of domestic violence. For more information on the case check out

Election-Related Information
Lake, Snell, Perry & Associates conducted a study on how gender made an impact on the 2004 presidential election. See the results from this study at

In the November election, 8 women candidates were able to either pick up open seats or unseat incumbent candidates in the House of Representatives. 57 women candidates also were able to retain their positions.
