Membership

Membership on the Villanova Law Review is based on academic standing or by invitation through the Summer Writing Competition. At the end of the academic year, Villanova Law Review invites approximately thirty-five students to join the Law Review Staff. Selections are made by two methods. First approximately the top ten percent of the first year class-based on overall grade-point average are extended invitations to join the Law Review Staff. Second, a number of students are chosen based on the results of the Villanova Law Review Summer Write-On Competition. All first and second year students are eligible (provided they have not accepted a position on the editorial board of another journal or Moot Court) for the Writing Competition. The Summer Writing Competition Editor and the Executive Editor are ultimately responsible for organizing and overseeing the entire Writing Competition.

The format of the Writing Competition itself consists of the submissions of an extensive Casenote on a recent case selected by the Writing Competition Editors. In addition, competitors must conform to the standards promulgated in the most recent edition of the Bluebook. The Writing Competition is a closed competition- -all materials are provided by the Law Review. The use of unauthorized material results in disqualification. Although subject to change, an organizational meeting is held in early-to-mid-April. During the organizational meeting, the general rules and procedures for the Writing Competition are made available and explained. Generally, the Writing Competition begins shortly after the conclusion of the Spring Semester and runs for approximately three weeks. The Villanova Honor Code applies to all aspects of the Writing Competition.
