Transfer Students

Villanova University School of Law welcomes applications from students who have begun their studies at another ABA accredited law school and wish to transfer to Villanova. Students who transfer to Villanova Law are easily integrated into second year courses and experience a smooth transition. As a transfer student, you will be invited to attend a half day orientation to assimilate you into our community. During this orientation, you will tour the law school and the law library, as well as familiarize yourself with all things Villanova!

To apply as a transfer applicant, you must complete your first year of law school as a full time student at an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.  As a transfer student, you will not receive a cumulative rank, nor are you eligible for prizes awards or a degree with honors based on that rank.  Otherwise, in all respects you will be regarded as a member of your graduating class.  You will be eligible to participate in the Law Review and Moot Court open competitions.  You should contact those organizations directly for information.

The following information should assist you in the application process:

  1. The law school you are currently attending must be ABA accredited and you must have successfully completed the equivalent of the first year of full-time law study by the time you transfer.

  2. The Admissions Office prefers to receive online applications.  You may apply here.

Alternatively, a candidate may apply by downloading and completing an application for admission.  This application must then be sent to the Admissions Office, Villanova University School of Law, 299 N. Spring Mill Road, Villanova, PA  19085.  Applicants must complete all sections of the application.

Applications should be submitted prior to the July 1 postmarked deadline. Applicants must complete all sections of the application.

  1. A $75.00, non –refundable, application fee is required.  When using the online application, this fee can only be paid by credit card.

  2. You will also need to submit a statement outlining the specific circumstances involved in your wishing to attend Villanova University School of Law.

  3. You are required to send a copy of your résumé.

  4. An official transcript from your current law school.  At a minimum this transcript will include all law school grades to date.

  5. You must also supply a letter from the appropriate dean at your school indicating that you are currently in good academic standing and eligible to continue your studies.  This letter should also indicate that there are no disciplinary actions either pending or expected to be brought against you.

  6. We will also need an LSDAS Report from LSAC.  Please contact them at www.LSAC.org to make the necessary arrangements.  You may also ask your law school to send a copy of the LSDAS report they have on file.

Transfer students are required to pay all applicable Villanova University School of Law fees and tuition.

You will be informed by mail in late July/early August of the decision on your application.

After acceptance as a transfer student, you will need to meet with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  The Associate Dean will assist you in selecting and setting up your class schedule.  You will also need to submit an official copy of your final undergraduate transcript to the Registrar’s Office.
