Alumni Relations
About Us
Membership is composed of the following categories: Masters of the Bench, Barristers, Associates and Pupils. The four membership categories; along with eligibility requirements, term limits and dues; are listed below. (Please note that all government employees, public interest lawyers and academicians receive a 50% dues discount.)
Masters: judges, law professors and experienced lawyers with at least 15 years of experience (Term: 5 years, 2008-2009 Dues: $370.00);
Barristers: lawyers with at least 7 years of experience (Term: 3 years, 2008-2009 Dues: $295.00);
Associates: lawyers who have less than 7 years experience (Term: 2 years, 2008-2009 Dues: $210.00 per year); and
Pupils: third year law students (Term: 1 year, no dues).
The Inn members meet eight times per year, between the months of September and April, to visit with one another and to hold programs on matters of ethics, skills and professionalism, for which attorneys receive continuing legal education credit.
The membership is divided into five “pupillage teams,” with each team consisting of a few members from each membership category. Each pupillage team conducts one program for the Inn each year. Pupillage team members get together informally outside of monthly Inn meetings to prepare their respective programs, as well as to learn about and converse with fellow team members. This allows the less-experienced attorneys to become more effective advocates and counselors by learning from and getting to know the more-experienced attorneys and judges.
